Today, on May 22nd, Martinique celebrates the momentous abolition of slavery in 1848, a date that symbolizes the triumph of freedom over oppression. This historical milestone not only reminds us of the profound value of freedom in a societal and historical context but also urges us to reflect on the personal and professional freedoms that shape our lives today.

Reflecting on a pivotal moment from my professional career, I recall an interaction with a director whose rigid mindset starkly contrasted these freedoms.

During a meeting, he curtly dismissed my input, insisting that his years of experience made him infallible and demanding unquestioning compliance. His authoritarian approach left me perplexed and disheartened, especially given the company’s evident struggles with high turnover, low morale, and outdated processes.

This encounter was a turning point for me, highlighting the stifling effect of environments that suppress intellectual and creative autonomy.

On this significant day, as we commemorate the essence of freedom, I urge you to be mindful of spaces that restrict your ability to think, create, and execute.
